Hello!!
What a journey it has been! If you’re still keeping up with this series, thank you so much for having an interest in my journey haha. Time for more!!
Now moving on to my sixth job, yes I know this seems like it’s never ending but it’s the last one, I promise. I warned you guys, I said I pretty much didn’t stop working for 8 months, so this is 8 months worth of experiences yall, and it’s only like the summary of my 8 months. But yes, my seventh job. To set the context, I was part of the Youth Corps Leaders Programme, YCLP for short, and as part of YCLP, I was given the opportunity to work in a social service agency. The agency I was posted to worked mainly with children and youth, and I really enjoyed working with the children in the community. I mean, because of the whole Covid situation, many of the programmes that were running had to be put on hold, so I didn’t really get to interact as much with the youths, but I had plenty of those opportunities with the children, over screen of course! I also got to see some of them in real life because the agency was doing some dinner bento distribution and I got to see some of the children as they came down collect their dinner.
In fact, I loved working with the community so much that I extended my internship for another month and am making plans to see how I can continue to volunteer there even as University starts haha. No one would willingly spend an extra month working in a place they didn’t like if they had the choice to right? So I guess the decision alone shows how enjoyable the whole experience is.
In the last of these shoutout sections, I just wanted to thank Youth Corps Singapore for the programme. I low-key struggled to decide whether to take up this programme or to relief teach for an even longer period of time (that was when full HBL was not a thing), but I’m so glad I chose the programme. I’ve gained so much from this entire experience and it’s really not something I can truly document. I also want to thank my mentor, for being so amazing. Thank you for always being there, to talk about our experiences working in the social service sector, and to bring us deeper insights from each and every conversation, and to talk us through some of our personal narratives, even those of our personal lives. I keep saying this but I really mean it. I could not have asked for a better mentor. The last person I wanna thank here is also the person whom arguably is the biggest part of my experience- my supervisor. Thank you for always being so willing to share, whether it is about work, about school tips (yes I’m here junior in school in a way), and even about life. Thank you for showing me around the community and guiding me every step of the way. Covid may have interrupted many of the programmes and hence my exposure to what the agency does, but my 10 weeks there was just as fruitful.
So that’s all my jobs! Hmm, every post has been a recount of my working experience in each job, but with no more job experiences to talk about, what will tomorrow’s post be? I guess there’s only one way to find out!
