8 Posts For My 8 Months Break: Part 2

Hey guys,

I’m back with part 2! Are you ready?

My first job was an internship at an events company. It was a really great return to one of the major loves of my life- backstage work. Like I said on my Instagram post, preparing for As had me forgetting how fulfilling backstage work is. But unlike my experiences handling school concerts and school events, this time I got a taste of doing the work professionally, in a corporate environment.

Life as an intern gave me the opportunity to dabble in many different things. The company was not large by any means, but being in a small company also meant that there were so many more opportunities for exposure to the various aspects of running a company. It also meant (for me at least) that your supervisors and bosses will be more willing to teach. During my time there, I was exposed to both the administrative aspects as well as the technical aspects of running an events company. We (as in my fellow interns and I) handled everything from sending invoices to contacting talents to setting up and tearing down the set. I clearly had very little experience in the admin aspects of the job and it wasn’t like I was amazingly good at the technical stuff either, so it was still a steep learning curve. It was busy, and we sometimes worked late into the night, but I got to say, the events industry has a charm like no other.

One of the most common events I took part in was weddings, and it was honestly so heartwarming to be a part of the celebration, albeit a very very small part. My most memorable event has to be my New Year’s Eve event. That day, we had 2 back to back performances, so it was a mad rush the entire evening. But it was also the day I got to meet and work with so many amazing people, from DJs who were hosting the countdown, to freelance colleagues. It was a unique experience, spending New Year’s Eve with a bunch of people whom I’ve known for less than a month, but I still had so much fun.

All in all, the experience was super enriching. It was a stressful period of my life, trying to learn everything within a short amount of time so that I don’t affect the workflow, but it was also a period of time when I learnt a lot in an equally short amount of time. My takeaways were definitely not just limited to the technical things, but I picked up skills on how to run organisations and how to streamline my workflow, skills that have proven time and time again to be integral to my life now.

Before I move on to the next major thing I did, I just wanted to do a shoutout to my bosses. I really just wanted to take this chance to once again, say thank you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for you. I may only have been in the company for about a month, but I learnt so much. When I entered, I was a noob who had never done anything outside the context of a school, but you gave me a taste of life as a working adult. I had so many firsts with you guys. My first internship, my first job, my first time running a photo booth, my first time being part of an MV shoot, and so many more. These are memories that I will treasure for sure, and they have become and will always be a part of me.

That’s all for today! Cya on my next post!
