Giving Soulfood #37

If it upsets you, it upsets you. Not a single person walking this earth has the right to tell you you shouldn’t be upset over something.

Hm today I just wanted to talk about validation. It’s an interesting topic to me, because I recently had a conversation with a friend and this was what he said, ‘Thank you for validating my feelings’.

And that hit me really hard, because why should he be thanking me for validating his feelings?

Call me simple or naive, but to me, it’s really simple. Everyone has their own right to feel whatever emotions they feel and every emotion is valid. So who are we to invalidate any of it for anyone other than ourselves?

But the truth is, this is a narrative I am hearing quite a lot now, and it’s honestly getting very worrying.

There are just so many instances of people telling me that they feel guilty for feeling a certain way and I’m honestly just so sad to here that, because that should never be the case.

So today, I’m not sure who needs to hear this, but if you do, then here it is.

Never feel guilty for feeling a certain way and never let anyone make you feel guilty for any of your feelings. They are just as valid as anyone’s and you shouldn’t even feel compelled to explain why you feel a certain way. It’s okay and just do what you need to do to process your emotions in your own time, alright?
