My friends used to call me a studious piece of shit, but most people know me as Jessy, Jess sometimes. A Gemini born in 2001.
As a child, I grew up loving reading and photography. My passion for reading novels has sparked my interest in writing, which is why I created a blog in the first place.
I am sentimental to a fault. I attach meaning and stories to most things I own, whether it is old books or plushies, and it breaks my heart every time I am confronted with the reality of letting some of them go.
Anyone who knows me also knows my love for Stitch, yes the Disney character. What not everyone knows is the reason why.
Ohana means family, and family means that nobody gets left behind.
Lilo & Stitch
Working in the community has given me the opportunity to work with many children and youths, many of whom are not your typical high-performing kids. Some of these kids are more often found in the punishment corner than in class, these are kids who teachers sometimes term the ‘troublemakers’. But through working with them. they have taught me the power of looking beyond behavior. Underneath every act of disobedience, I have discovered heartbreaking stories of children and youths who just want to be seen and heard. Stitch reminds me of this reality. On the surface, he is quite a destructive monster. He is strong and powerful, destroying everything he comes into contact with. But with love and exposure (or education if you want to call it that), even he learns the value of family and is the sweetest friend to Lilo towards the end of the film. Additionally, Stitch is indestructible, which only reminds me of the tenacity and resilience the youths I work with have shown for them to be able to pull through everything life has thrown at them.
Stitch reminds me of the kids I’ve worked with, he reminds me that whatever difficulties I face, however dry school might be and whatever life throws at me, I have to push on because I want to do my part to make a difference for the community.
I really hope that as you make your way through the posts and articles, they become an avenue for you to get a glimpse into how life was like for me at various junctions and how I felt about them. Interact with me through the comments and other channels! If there is anything you would like to hear my perspectives on, do let me know and I’ll do my best to make them happen.
See you over at the ‘Blog’ tab:D
