Giving Soulfood #32

Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions.

Pema Chodron

A while ago, I shared about inner peace and how peace comes from within and today, I just wanted to add on a little to that idea.

There are so many things happening every single day. From the littlest thing to the biggest. And the truth is, we cannot control many of these things, yet they have the potential to affect how our entire day goes.

I’ve always really hated the idea of having my mood led on by the things in life that I cannot control, so I’ve always been looking for a way to change that part of myself.

And this was the one that I found most useful for me.

I know that it might be difficult, but in reality, this is really the easiest method to keep your peace. All you have to do is to remind yourself that nothing can take away your peace. Your peace belongs to you and only you. Nothing can change that.

It’s a simple idea, with extremely powerful results, but it is honestly not easy at all to achieve. I’ve been working on it for a couple of months now, and I’m really not there yet.

When things happen, it is very natural for us to immediately react, because that is exactly what we are used to doing. But once we start recognising that that action is taking our peace away, and is doing us absolutely no good, that’s when we can start to take back control over our reaction and how we respond to the events around us.

In the blink of an eye, it’s Friday again! Hope you guys have a good rest over the weekend and for all you students out there, hope yall get the chance to recharge after a long week of school!!
