The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer someone else up.
Mark Twain
Hey guys,
It has been a pretty busy couple of days, but this is something I came across today.
I think that we sometimes underestimate how much happiness we feel when we try to make someone else happy. By listening to someone else vent and rant, you would sometimes feel that you are absorbing all that negative energy and you end up feeling really drained, tired and unhappy. But that need not necessarily be the case!
You see, when you listen to someone else’s problems, how it makes you feel is sometimes very dependent on how you process that information. If you are only thinking about the situation and looking at the problem at surface level, maybe thinking about how you might feel if you were in the same situation, it is only natural for you to feel tired and drained after that conversation. But if your brain is thinking about how to help that person feel better about his situation, you’re actually thinking about how to put a positive spin on the situation, which is a skill in itself! It is also a skill that can help you feel much better, because then you’re working on turning the negative energy into positive energy.
In addition, I also really just think that there is something about seeing someone else happy that can bring you happiness nothing else can. It really is a different type of happiness that I can’t describe in words. You really have to try it and feel it to get what I’m referring to.
Congrats to all you kiddos who have completed your MT papers today!! I’m sure it’ll be okay:)
Phase 2 starts tomorrow and while I know that we are all very excited about that, let’s all still be very responsible about going out okay? I know that it’s been almost 2 months since we had anything resembling a social life, but the last thing we want is for the situation to blow up again.
