Hey guys,
I wanna talk about peer support today. I attended a workshop this morning and it got me thinking. There are so many instances where I enter a conversation and after listening to them, I felt like I had to help them in a somewhat practical way and offer concrete advice. I hate to admit this but I’m guilty of jumping in with a ‘saviour mentality’.
But this is exactly what peer support is not. More often than not, when our friends confide in us, they really just want to find someone to talk to, an outlet to vent, and it’s not so much about finding solutions.
Today’s quote is one that has actually appeared in my life on multiple occasions, and I’ve been on both the receiving and giving end.
For those of you who are going through a tough season, I hope that it speaks to you the way you need it to, and that you can find some encouragement in it.
For the others, those of you supporting a friend, I hope that this quote reminds you that our friends are often tougher than we give them credit for. I believe that life never throws anyone anything they cannot handle, so everything that our friends are going through, it will be something that they will be able to handle. Our role is simply to let them know that we will be here for them and anytime they need a shoulder to rest on, or a listening ear, we will be right there beside them, perhaps virtually at this point in time, but we will be there.
