When you hit rock bottom and survive, there are very few things in life that can scare you.
@thegoodquote
Hey guys!
I was trying to think about what I could possibly say that could add value to this quote (I’m not kidding yah, usually each caption takes me 15mins max, but I sat in front of my laptop for an hour and there were still no words on my screen today.), And that was when I realised, I have no idea what to say because I haven’t figured out my magic formula yet.
You see, many of the quotes I’ve posted and stories I’ve shared have come from stories of my life. It’s things that I’ve been through and things that I’ve sort of figured out. It’s not the perfect method or anything, that’s for sure, but I can share what I did to get out of the situation and to move forward.
And for today’s quote, I can’t say for sure that I’ve hit my rock bottom and climbed out. Sure I’ve had my lows, but being barely 19, I can hardly say for sure that the lows I’ve felt can be seen as my rock bottom because I am 100% sure that harder days will come my way.
But for the sake of making this read meaningful, let’s just take the perspective that the very last low you had was your rock bottom. I’ll do the same.
You see, there’s this saying that goes, life doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger. So from that perspective, it isn’t actually wrong to say that the last hole you climbed out of was the deepest one yet.
And today, I actually just wanted to share one of the coping mechanisms I’ve learnt recently. My friend recommended a workshop to me and I attended it, and it was on Art Therapy (recall my post on the same topic just barely a week ago? It’s on my blog if you wanna check that out). And I’m just going to share a little bit about what happened.
So the activity was titled Reflection from My Hands, and it’s really simple.
The first thing you do is to take a piece of paper and outline the shape of your hand using a pen, pencil, marker, whichever you choose.
Next, take about 30mins, longer/shorter depending on individuals, and write/draw things on the piece of paper. The idea is to put things that are within your control inside the outline of your hand, and things that are outside of your control outside the outline of the paper.
I encourage you to attempt this with a friend, or a group of friends, so that you can share your drawings and talk to someone about it at the end of the activity, and here are the discussion questions we talked about during the workshop.
1. How does your artwork relate to you as an individual?
2. How did you feel while you were creating your art piece?
All credits still go to KBLU and SAMH for all of this!!
For me, it was a very therapeutic experience because it felt so good to put everything down on paper. Everything that could have felt overwhelming when they were in your head, it just feels good to put it down on paper and suddenly it just doesn’t feel that overwhelming anymore.
If you would like to try it out, I’ve briefly described exactly what we did above, you can find it there. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know and I’ll try my best to answer them. Or if you have done the activity and just want someone to talk to about it, you can DM me too! My DMs are always open for you guys:D
Have a great weekend yall:))
