Giving Soulfood #10

You often feel tired, not because you’ve done too much but because you’ve done too little of what sparks a light in you.

I think that as with life sometimes, we get so caught up in living the pragmatic life that we forget that our soul needs to be nourished by doing things we actually like.

Take for example a student. He is often so caught up in keeping up with homework, studying for tests and exams, leading his CCA and all in all, trying to build an impressive portfolio and keeping up with good grades that will get him into a university course of his choice, one that will get him a degree that will get him a high paying job and hence a comfortable lifestyle.

And I’m not saying that this is wrong! In the society that we live in, as much as we hate to admit and as much as we are trying to change it, it is still a cut throat society and it’s still  a society that values paper qualifications.

But this sort of lifestyle is honestly one that is very draining. I’ve felt it and I’m sure many of you have felt it.

This post A Level break, however, was valuable in showing me that life did not have to be that way.

This year, I took on as many jobs as my schedule allowed. At one point in time, I was doing an internship that had me working from 7am-anytime between 2pm to 5pm, then a job where my shift was 3pm – 7pm on certain days, and I was sometimes working 12pm-9.30pm on weekends. I was crazy busy but I never really felt particularly tired because I loved what I was doing and I was doing things I had genuine interest in.

Stepping back and comparing the past 6 months to the last 2 years of my JC life, I wouldn’t say that I was busier, it was comparable, but I was so much more tired, simply because what I was doing in JC didn’t do anything to help my spark. In fact there were points when I honestly just felt like I lost my spark.

As much as the natural flow of how this is going suggests that I should encourage you to take part in more things that light that spark in you, I also know that it really is not easy to balance between the two. All I can say is, hang in there during the school term, but once you get some free time, invest that time in something that lights your spark. It can be volunteering, it can be taking part in a sport, even binge watching shows if that’s your thing. I’m not here to tell you what lights your spark, only you know that. I’m just here to remind you of how important it is to find out what it is, then actively pursue it when you can. Because it can make a huge difference in your life.

Also, love the bunnies that my friend sent today ahaha (check out the ig to see them, I promise you won’t regret it!!)
