How your life feels for you is more important than how it looks to everyone else. Fill it with genuineness, joy and goodness.

I think that sometimes, it is very easy to live our life for someone else, for something else, for literally anything but ourselves. I’ve been guilty of it too, making decisions based on what would look good on my portfolio, based on what people might think of me, based on every factor other than what makes me happy.
Which is why I really appreciate the fact that I’m sitting down and reflecting everyday now. I don’t know when I’ll run out of content to write, but at least for now, everyday is a chance for me to take a good look at what I’ve been doing over the past few years, and it is a chance for me to think about whether I want to continue living this way.

Growing up, there has always naturally been higher expectations placed on me, which essentially led to me placing higher expectations on myself. These expectations essentially swayed me to make decisions based on what would look better on a testimonial, and what looks better on my portfolio. And while you may say that this is a really shallow way to live, this was my reality. I was trapped in a cycle where I was living for others.
As much as I’ve been telling my friends that Covid has been ruining everything, I’m actually still quite grateful for it. There’s this saying in Chinese, 危机就是转机. It loosely translates to crisis is a turning point and who’s to say that this crisis is not the turning point we all need.
With staying at home, I started to reflect on how I was living my life and it is only this year that I saw for myself exactly how life lacked meaning when I was living that way. We each only get one shot at life, so why should I live for others? So this is the year that I decided to start living for myself.
I started to tune out the opinions and expectations of those who have absolutely nothing invested in how my life turns out, and I hold myself accountable to this one statement.
I make decisions based on what fulfills me, I chase what brings me joy and I seek where my passion lies.
It’s difficult, no doubt. I sometimes still find myself slipping back into my old way of thought, but with constant reminders and wholesome conversations with wholesome people, this can be a new way of life, one that can possibly hold much more meaning for you and me.
Let me know if you give it a shot too!!

On a side note, I bet you never realised that a cow can be so fluffy. I never did until today.

And I’d just like to put this on record. I don’t come up with these posts on my own. Sure the captions are written by me and the quotes are chosen by me, but I’m not the one sourcing for all the super cute animal pictures and videos. That credit all goes to my friend. He’s actually the one who inspired me to include this as an element in the post as well, because he always just reposts them on his story and that makes my day, which is why I could tell you guys to expect this in my earlier posts. What I didn’t expect was for him to send me links to the posts everyday. So here’s a special shoutout for him, the first on this account. You can check out his public account @tattoo_oyster (on ig). Aside from being the awesome friend he is, also a super talented artist so do check that page out!!
