Giving Soulfood #8

It is not how great your faith, but how little is your doubt.

Heart of God Church

Hello!! It’s a brand new week!!

The content I’m sharing today is kinda special because I’m taking it from a service I watched last weekend with my friends. Now I’m not Christian, and I will be taking this out of the Christian context, so if there is anything that I am interpreting wrongly, please do let me know. I wanna learn more too!

So the service was one that was about faith, and honestly, it just made me think about our own faith in ourselves. And one of my key takeaways was actually ‘When your faith leaks, don’t add a layer of condemnation and guilt, but learn to top it up.’

Like I was sharing with a friend, especially for students in school, it is so easy to lose faith when they don’t do well for a test they studied really hard for. It is easy to start feeling guilty that they didn’t study enough, but that’s not helpful. What is helpful is moving on and learning from their mistakes and having faith that as long as they continue to push on, they will excel.

We also talked about uncertainties and doubts, and the fact that uncertainties are not equivalent to doubt. There is always room for uncertainties in our lives but I was reminded to make no room for doubts. Bringing it back to my school analogy, it’s something like you can be uncertain about whether your efforts will pay off in the exam hall, but you should never doubt your value. Sure you might not always do well in the exam hall, but there are things that you are so good at. Your grades don’t mean everything. In any case, you putting in effort in studying and improving is so much more worth praising than the final grade.

This is something I picked up that I thought might resonate with some of you. ‘It is not how great your faith, but how little is your doubt. It is not about increasing your faith, but reducing your doubts. But at the same time, acknowledging that it is normal to have uncertainties.’

At the end of the day, I guess I just want to say that you will never be walking the journey alone. Some of you might not feel validated by those around you, but from today on, there will always be at least one person validating you. I might not know all of you personally, but no matter what happens at the end, I am very proud of each and everyone of you, for simply trying and never giving up.
