Don’t let someone else’s opinion change the way you feel about something. Always stand by what (who) you believe in.

Hey guys! We’re almost done with the first week of June! How have yall been coping?
Today’s quote is something that I hold close to my heart. It’s something that I’ve mentioned in my Wellness Wednesday segment on @01step_at_a_time as well, but it’s something that I feel very passionate about.
In my post As holiday, I had the opportunity to work with students and that experience made me realise something very important. I wrote a really long caption about it on my personal insta, and I’ll include a picture of that below so be sure to check that out if you’re interested.
I realised that it is very very easy for us to pre-judge students. In every school, there will always be this group of students who perhaps just don’t conform to school standards. Perhaps they scream and shout along the corridors, perhaps they’ve never ever handed up a single piece of homework, perhaps they show absolutely no interest in doing well academically. Kids like these, they tend to be classified as the ‘bad’ kids, the troublemakers. They tend to be the ones who get called for detention, in some cases, suspension.
It is so easy for us to simply punish them for their actions. But what I realised through this experience is the importance of finding out their stories. Now I’m not saying that they shouldn’t be punished for misbehaving, they need to learn that actions have consequences just like every other child. All I’m saying is that perhaps instead of letting the story end at punishment, we need to find out the reason behind the action, the motivation behind the behaviour.
I don’t believe that any child is bad by nature. No child likes being punished. So there must be a reason behind every child that acts out.
And how does all these link back to the quote I chose? Well it’s very simple actually. As we interact with others, it’s easy to be influenced by their thoughts, their opinions and their views on what is happening. And it’s great to interact with others to hear their thoughts.
The challenge comes when you listen to them, and try to separate facts from their opinions. It’s the filtration process that is difficult, but trust me on this, there IS magic in believing in someone no one else believes in. I’ve seen it happen, and I really hope that you can see it for yourself as well.
So if there is someone around you who isn’t receiving much love and trust in this sense, be that person for them. There might be 100 people telling them that they are a lost cause but trust me, they are not. No one is ever a lost cause.
Trust them. Really trust them. And tell them. Let them know that there will always be at least one person supporting them, and that person is you. And once you are genuine in this venture, watch them change, because sometimes, having one person believe makes all the difference.
Also, sidenote, the picture of the hamster I posted is like so cute!! You gotta check it out ahahah:D
