The Art of Art Therapy

Hey guys,

So this is something that I’ve wanted to talk about for a while now. Again it’s something that is not particularly talked about, but it’s the need for validation.

Somehow, in the world that we live in, it is often thought that craving validation means that one is shallow, or that one is for the lack of a better word, bimbo.

But to crave validation is completely normal. It’s human. It’s not that we do things just for the gratitude that follows, we just want to be appreciated for what we are doing.

But the truth is that sometimes, in the real world, that just doesn’t happen. Sometimes, people just don’t react the way we hope they do. And that’s okay! Because we are strong independent individuals who can find another outlet to let out our disappointments and carry on treating people like they’ve never hurt us.

And today, I’m gonna share with you my secret weapon.

You guys already know that I write to heal, but there is something else I do that I haven’t shared before. I engage in art therapy.

Now when people think about art therapy, they usually think about drawing and painting, things that stresses people with minimal artistic talent like me out. But I’ve discovered that that is not the only form of art therapy.

I feel in love with nanoblocks and they have saved me countless times. It’s not difficult to do, but oh so theraputic.

There are little ones from Daiso that costs $2, and slightly larger ones that cost a little more. There are also very many different variations of blocks available, from the simple lego lookalikes, to blocks that slide and lock together, to blocks that come with screws to lock them together.

The point is, you can always start with something small and simple to start off, to try to figure out if this works for you, but if you haven’t tried it, I really encourage you to.

Just find a playlist, or even a show that requires minimal attention, let it play and focus on building something for decor and display, or even for a friend as a gift.

I always end up going into a zone where the only thing that matters is if I’m building the right layer and that always calms me down because for that couple of hours, I don’t have to stress about whatever I was stressing about. In fact, I don’t even have to think about anything!

Recently, I also discovered something new. Diamond paintings! Okay it’s like SO fun!! The ‘diamonds’ are small, so it require extra concentration, which is so fantastic when you wanna block things out. They also tend to take up less space, so it’s space efficient! Also, much much cheaper than the larger sized nanoblock figurines when you buy them on Shoppee or Lazada.

I’ll attach some pictures of the figurines I’ve completed below soon so check back in here in say, about a week!

So yes, this is my secret weapon! I hope it becomes yours too!

Till my next post, have a good day you guys!
