Swim for Hope 2019

Hey guys,

This is long overdue but here it finally is.

Last year, I took part in this really cool event called Swim for Hope. I did a little bit of research and realised that it debuted in 2011, which means that I missed a good 8 years of the event, which naturally meant that I refused to miss another one. So I signed up, even though I only realised that this event was happening round a week before registration closed.

I was an idealistic youth. I really wanted to go for all 5 but because I signed up late, I could only sign up for 4. Eventually, I realised that my results were pretty bad, so I really had to spend more time studying, so in the end, I only went for 1 with my friends, which was the Toa Payoh SAFRA one.

The whole experience was really great! The whole atmosphere was so hyped up and everyone was really excited to do their bit for charity. There were free drinks and banana provided and we were really well taken care of. The only bit that wasn’t so great was the bad weather. It threatened to rain and the people in my slot were delayed for a good 50mins. What started out as a 2h swim turned into a 1h10min swim.

Yes it’s something that was out of anyone’s control but looking back, that really was the only thing I could complain about the event.

About the swim situation, the 6-lane pool was split into 3 sections, one for the parent-child swim, one for breast stroke and one for freestyle. So essentially everyone had to go in one lane and come back in another and it really was a continuous swim thing. It got pretty cramped at times, so you really have to watch out for others. Just a point to note, it’s not uncommon to get kicked accidentally so just be aware of that!

Overall, Swim For Hope 2019 was such an amazing experience and the water creature in me is so excited for Swim For Hope 2020. This year, I’m aiming to make it for all 5 swims! If you can swim, I really do encourage you to give it a try. It’s really not about how many laps you swim, but about doing your little bit for charity while having fun in the process:)

Well, till the next post, cyaa!!
