JC Essentials

First published on 3/2/18 on Meraki

Hey guys!

I’ve been in junior college for a couple of weeks now and I just wanted to share with you guys some of the things I feel are essential to having a smooth journey here. Just some background information before I start this post. I’m currently studying at Victoria Junior College so I will be making some references to the school herself. If you are not done with your O Levels, why not consider VJC? You won’t regret it if you can identify with some of the attitudes I will be mentioning later on.

But first, watch this video!

Now don’t get me wrong. I love the content TSL produces, but there really are so many other things that make JC survivable.

This is my list. And trust me, I think the list will just continue to grow as I progress through these 2 years.

  1. Sweater/ Hoodie/ Pullover

LT5 is one of the main reasons why this one item could make or break your day in VJ. For those of you who are not familiar with the acronyms we use frequently in JCs, LT stands for Lecture Theatre. In VJ, LT5- fondly known as the fridge, is one of the exceptionally cold LTs. If you don’t find some way or another to keep yourself warm there, I’m not completely sure how much of the lecture you will be able to absorb.

Rumour has it that the PT (Performance Theatre) is colder than LT5, but I haven’t been there to try that yet.

2. CANDY!!

You are going to want to fall asleep during lectures and tutorials. Just like how you wanted to sleep during lessons back in secondary school. The main difference, it’s gonna be harder to stay awake because air-conditioned places are so much nicer to sleep in right? So giving yourself a sugar rush every now and then may not be such a terrible idea.

3. GC

In math, this is your new best friend. Sure, you can download an app on your phone to replace your graphing calculator, but you can’t bring your phone to the exam hall (just sayin)

4. Planner

There are so many things going on at the same time you are going to forget something sooner or later. So just write everything, and I mean EVERYTHING down.

5. A file, maybe two

Lecture notes, tutorials, consent forms, etc…. Keep everything in order and then you will be motivated to study:))

6. A portable charger AND a charger

The Handphone Policy in JC is so much more relaxed than in secondary school, and you are going to have random long breaks in your timetable, so trust me. You will use your phone a lot more than you did in school. And somehow or another, you eventually will stay in school longer than you stay at home, so make sure your phone has enough battery power or you’re gonna have to look for a kind soul to lend you a charger.

I can’t really think of anything else at the moment, so this is it for this post! I hope you enjoyed it. Share with me some of your essentials in the comments section or at the Contact Page.

See you next time!
