My Last Year In Moonlight Castle High School: Chapter 8

Attack On A Unicorn

Sunday, 12th January 1999

Diary,

I’m relating the incident that happened today in a third person’s view so it’s more interesting. So sit back, relax and read!

The cool morning breeze blew through the vents of the tent that Kate, Jeremy, Cynthia and Daniel shared It was dawn and Kate had just woken up.

“Morning Cynthia… Wake up! All of you! We are gonna be late!” Kate screamed.

“Woah, chillax Kate it is only 7am. We only need to start in 30 minutes,” said Jeremy.

“Wakey wakey, sleepy head,” Cynthia said to Daniel, “We are starting in 30 minutes time.”

“30 minutes? Owww!” Daniel salt bolt upright, hitting his head on a hanging sausepan.

Professor Gaia had changed the rules of the project since last night’s incident: Two groups could work together now. That meant that four people would work in one group now. Anyway, they started laughing when Daniel hit his head because he reacted in a very funny way, Then the boys, Cynthia and Kate took turns changing in the tent. After that, Cynthia warmed up some canned backed beans for their breakfast. After breakfast, they brought only small knapsacks as they set off.

One hills and two hours later…

“Guys, can we have a break now? I’m super tired,” complained Cynthia as she collapsed next to a tree.

“Just at the right time Cynthia. Look what I found!” exclaimed Kate, full of excitement.

She bent down and picked up a handful of Bitter Violets and placed them in two separate jars.

“67 more plants to go,” said Daniel and slumped down next to Cynthia. Both were clearly exhausted.

“Jeremy and I will collect all the plant specimens from this area, while you two just rest. Okay Jeremy? Jeremy?” Kate called out to him. Jeremy was staring intently towards a pool of shimmering solver liquid. The rest followed his gaze.

“Is that…?”

“Oh my…”

“Don’t tell me…”

“Yup. It’s unicorn blood,” Kate, Cynthia, Daniel and Jeremy all said at the same time.

They quickly rushed forward, inspecting the large pool of unicorn blood.

“Hey, look! There’s a trail. Let’s follow it,” Daniel said excitedly.

Soon, the group was trouping deeper and deeper into the Woods. They were nearing a clearing when all of a sudden; they heard a whimper and growls thundering in front of them.

“Oh no, werewolves again,” Kate thought.

Curious, they crept forward silently, making no sound. In front of them lat a beautiful unicorn, lying lifeless on the ground, being feasted on by werewolves. Kate, being too excited, accidentally stepped onto a twig.

SNAP! The sound alerted the attention of the werewolves and the group ducked behind a mass of shrubberry. Kate’s heart was beating faster by the minute. The werewolves were getting closer and closer. The rustle of the branches startled her and group of werewolves came tearing towards them. The group immediately reacted, whipping out their wands and belting out spell after spell. In the midst of the chaos, Kate was cornered by a werewolf. Terrified by its growls, she dropped her wand and shrunk back into the undergrowth, too scared to react.

“Ahhhh!” she screamed and the werewolf was on its hind legs, ready to strike. Jeremy realised what was happening and quickly drew his wand. “Aufenthalt!” he shouted, but the spell missed. Jeremy quickly threw himself over the werewolf and started throwing punches at it. Other wolves started attacking him and the others, but it seemed like they had forgotten about Kate.

Kate reacted instinctively, drawing her wand and shouting, “Aufenthalt!”

They all dropped to the ground, petrified. Kate shakily walked towards her friends.

“H…Hey. Are you g…guys alright?” she asked as they dropped to the ground, exhausted.

Weak replies were given before she sent a help signal to her teacher. After that she bent over Jeremy’s ear and whispered, “You’re a life saviour.”

And then she kissed him on the cheek.
